10 mpg?
My cuz bought a 2006 2500 shortbed 5.9 with 315k on it to pull a travel trailer weighing about 5500lbs. He is only getting 10 mpg; figured he would get better fuel mileage than that.
Any ideas? Thanks[coffee] |
Auto or Standard? What size tires? Any mods? Is he doing hand calculations?
|
Also how fast is he going? I’ve found when towing there is a huge difference in economy.

Almost all travel trailer tires are limited to 65 mph. Going faster wastes fuel due to drag and invites explosive tire failures.
I get 12-14 towing my trailer with either of the two trucks in my sig. |
Agreed. Even dropping to 60 will increase mpg.
I got around 12 towing a 30’ 5th wheel with an 03 SRW 3500. I get around 10 with my current dually and 40’ 5th wheel. Being also signifantly taller it pushes more wind. A 5k travel trailer should do better than 10, unless bombing along at 75 or something. |
