Just thought I'd give an update. I posted about this on page 6 and ended up doing the swap over a year ago. I've put over 20k miles on my aluminum 1-piece shaft and it was the best thing I could have done. I had NO more launch shudder after the swap and after 20k + HARD miles I have had ZERO issues and its still smooth as silk. I had a U-joint going out and found out about the conversion so I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. No regrets here whatsoever. Plus now I have one less u-joint and no carrier bearing to worry about replacing down the road. This is on an 06 Quad cab longbed with a 3" lift running 35's.

You don't happen to have the part number do ya? I have an '06 Mega Cab, auto, and want to do the same thing, but the part numbers being thrown around are quite inconsistent.
Thanks!

This guy's got the right one. That's the number I used and ordered from www.dodgeparts.com. It was under $500 including shipping and it had to come from WA state to southeastern PA. You two have the same truck and my QC LB is the same whellbase so I'd say it should work for you...

Just wanted to chime in with another update as the guy who started this trend. I now have 133K on the odometer. I love my truck!!!!!! anyway no issues to report, hauled a couple 16K loads and this a work truck, every day it goes out to a job site or hauls somethin.

I'm going to build a all aluminum flatbed for the truck and keep running it.

any questions feel free to PM me, i set my account to email me when i get PM, sorry to those who it took so long for me to get back to.

ok so i started to get a back-up-only squeak. so i swapped out the ujoints, they were worn, but not worn out. they still had plenty of grease. needles to say they didn't need to be replaced and it didn't solve my squeak, so we know the one piece is good for at least 80k!

Just installed my one piece aluminum DS in my 02 mega cab. Very impressive.
Doghouse Diesel really came through for me. Ordered on Thursday, It arrived Friday morning. Rich at Doghouse Diesel upgraded the shipping to next day for no additional cost. Now that's customer service at its best.

I ordered mine from Rich at Dog House Diesel about 4:00 PM on a Tuesday and it was at my house by 12:30 PM on a Thursday......this thing is oh so beautiful!

Install took less than one hour.....

I removed the four bolts securing the shaft at the axle end and placed a jack stand under the stock shaft

I then removed the two bolt for the carrier bearing and placed the shaft on another jackstand

I then slide the front of the shaft out of the tcase and used a hard rubber mallet to smack the flange, at the axle end (rusted)

I then removed the four bolts for the carrier bearing mounting bracket and slid the new shaft in place

I cannot believe how frigin heavy the stock shaft is, compared to the Mopar aluminum shaft

With my small lift, there were not any issues with the front stub shaft and the splines

Enjoy the pics:

$565 from Dog House is rich! Wow.

Nightrain...you ever get the right part number? Was trying to verify the 06 megacab 5.9 auto is all.

52123220-AB - What is this one you bought?
52123161-AB - is 75" for 2005.5 and up QCLB or Mega with auto?
52123162-AB - is 74" for 2005.5 and up QCLB or Mega with manual?

So many threads...so many numbers.

I gave up after shimming the center bearing. I don't haul very often, but the few times I hauled my Buick to the race track I didn't notice any vibration. A balanced trailer might not be the best test for loaded and unloaded weight on the suspension (pinion angle change), but I don't have any vibration with the shim pack in place; towing or not. So, my incentive to go out and spend almost $500 on a very nice piece of aluminum is not very high right now. If I were to get the urge, though, I'd go with bighornram's number up there a few threads. Also, my sunroof started leaking, so my attention has shifted from under the truck to the very top...

I see. Well thanks for the help. I'm not sure I'm willing to sink $565 into it, but I think if you hunt around it's still available for $300ish.

Alright, I think I read through this entire thread, plus did a search or 2, and couldn't come up with anything...

Is anyone running a factory dodge one piece shaft with an 8" lift?

I just replaced my carrier bearing at Thanksgiving with a Spicer over the road truck part, and yesterday pulling a trailer and small tractor the bearing got shoved right out of the rubber. I'm annoyed, and dont want to put another bearing on just to have to do it again...Although it sounds like a probably need traction bars...

I'm waiting on a call back from rich at Doghouse, but I think the factory shaft may be a little short...I do have a TC indexing ring installed, so that should give me a little extra length...

Anyone....?

How much longer than stock would you want it? If you need one roughly 1.75" longer than I'd go for it, if you need one longer than that then you'll need to look elsewhere.

Not sure...Anyone know the length to 52123220AB? I took a measurement yesterday, and came up with 77.5". That was with the front part of the shaft all the way into the slip yoke of the transfer case, since that bearing got pushed out forward...
