anyone know of the 1pc driveshaft # for a 2wd megacab auto with the 5.9? I don't think the 4wd version would be long enough.

Ra'am, I need to resurrect this old thread to verify the part number. I also have an '06 auto (Mega cab) and not a dually. You bought part number 52123220-AB, but I saw elsewhere on this thread 52123161-AB which is over $100 cheaper. I tried to order one from dodgeparts.com, but they sent me a note saying the part is non-returnable. So, I just want to see if I have the right part for my truck. Can you help with those two part numbers?

Thanks!

Well looking at the table with part#'s posted earlier in this thread there are some code #'s posted after each part#. They tell you what type of truck {ie. 6spd, auto, 4wd, 2wd, etc.} each driveshaft is for. The way I decipher the codes the differance between the one I got and other one you are talking about is mine is for the new 6spd 68rfe auto {even though my truck has the 4spd 48re auto} and the other one is for the 48re auto. When I ordered mine they required the last 8 or 9 digits of the VIN so I got them off an 08' on the lot that was similar to mine only differance was the 08' had the 6.7 with the 68rfe auto and thats the part they gave me. So dont know what else to tell you but I got over 20k on mine now with alot of heavy hauling and Smarty Jr and its holding up fine!

Thanks, Ra'am! So, I guess both are the same part, just different part numbers. I bought my truck with a 4" lift and just noticed this evening (while checking driveshaft length) that they didn't shim the carrier bearing. I through a 1/2" shimpack in and I can barely feel any shudder now. I may save the $370 until I need U-joints.

So, did that part fit? I assume it was aluminum, but just curious if you received it and it fit your rig.

just a thought, have you guys checked your shock bushings? a friend of mine a tons of things changed in his driveline trying to get rid of a clunk (so maybe it is different, but then again maybe not) on take off or sudden acceleration. turns out the shock bushings were gone. all you need to do is grab a shock (probably should check both out back) and give it a wiggle side to side, up and down. if there is play, time for new ones

Okay, I have some info for those of us running a NV5600. There is no "right" one piece drive shaft for our trucks. I have the 3162 shaft on my truck right now and it's about 2" too long, it works but I'm nervous about how far into the transfer case it goes. The 3161 shaft that is made for the auto is almost exactly an inch longer and will definitely NOT work, at all, ever.

If you have a '05.5 or earlier 4x4 truck with a crew cab, long box and a six speed manual I'm talking to you here.
3162: ~74" from u-joint to u-joint
3161: ~75" from u-joint to u-joint
stock: ~72" from front u-joint to rear u-joint

if you have a '05.5 or newer 4x4 crew cab long bed OR a mega cab:
auto: use 3161
manual: use 3162
These will work perfectly for you.

I got my 1-piece from doghousediesel. The 1-piece solved ALL the nagging issues that go with the 2-piece driveshaft. I am totally pleased with the 1-piece, would get another in a heartbeat if I got another truck with a 2-piece. It is massive, just over 6" diam. The factory2-piece weighed 55 lbs, the new 1-piece weighs 30 lbs. Took all of 15 minutes to remove the old driveshaft and install the new one. My shudder at takeoff is gone, the vibrations at a couple different speeds are gone, the vibrations when towing are gone.

Right now the fellow at doghousediesel is working to solve all the fitment issues on older model trucks' It apears that the problems lie with the older trannys being a couple inches longer at the tailpiece than the newer models.

I am sure there will be some information forthcoming about the 1-piece that is the right fit for the older models.

That's exactly the problem. I have my stock driveshaft sitting around if he wants one to play with, although shipping would be excessive.

I to would likt to upgrade to a one piece drive shaft but haveing the NV5600 seems to be preventing me. Sure would be nice if someone made one that would fit. Without getting a custome shaft built that coast a small fortune.
