07 5.9 or 6.7?

The wife and I have decided to wait until April to get a new truck and I was wondering do you guys think there will be any 5.9 trucks left by then or will it just be 6.7's.Also will the 6.7 be the truck to be for 07.If we get a 5.9 I will go with the 6-spd. but the 6.7 will for sure buy the auto. Thanks in advance.

Dealers can't keep the 5.9's on the lot around here. Anyone with any diesel experience doesn't want the EGR. We've all seen what EGR has done to the Fords.

I agree with Festus. The EGR Systems along with the DPT's on the 6.7 Engines will make the new 06-07 5.9 Engines disappear pretty quickly on all the Dodge New Car Lots. That is why I bought a 2006. I do not want that 6.7Engine with the EGR.

Hey Tex,
I am on the east coast and I was looking for a non-loaded mega cab in grey color....the dealership had a hell of a time finding one. (One in PA and one in Atlanta) that met my needs. There are some silver and white ones left..but alot of the colors seem to be gone, unless you get a laramie *there are more left over that are loaded*

I now have a grey 5.9L 2007 MEGA CAB in my driveway...lovin' it !!!

I would suggest you get out ASAP if you really want a 5.9, cause they are going quick...there are alot more quads than mega's cabs left.

Good luck! and Go with the 5.9L !!! Its a proven motor.

I believe everyone is making the same mistake worrying about the 6.7 they did with the common rail 5.9. It proved to be a winner and I believe the 6.7 will also. I obliviously thought that or I wouldn't have bought a cab and chassis. Now with over 10,000 miles on it, the only thing I don't like about it is the burn mode for the DPF, and once all stations are carrying the ULSD that won't be a noticeable problem. It runs good, pulls good, and is quieter with less vibration than the 5.9.
To each their own, but don't write something off you haven't even tried, or had anyone else try. I believe that is a mistake. I'll try it out for you, this time next year, I'll have somewhere between 80 - 100,000 miles on my truck. We will know then how trouble free the 6.7 is.

I have a feeling that the 6.7 will be just as reliable and even more stout than the 5.9L. The main downside of the 6.7L is going to be getting past the emissions junk when trying to BOMB one. If you don't plan on BOMBing it, I would try the 6.7L

A guy in town buys a new Cummins every 2-3 years or so and has since at least 94 to tow his 5th wheel. He just traded in his 03 for an 07. I saw him earlier this week and asked him about it. He didn't want the 6.7 and the EGR, so that's why he bought this 07 5.9.

EB and Silver could be right. Look at Cummins track record compared to Brand F's.

I saw a short video from Cummins about the EGR & VVG turbo on a Cummins test engine in a semi ( the same set up they plan to use in the new 6.7L) and it didn't have any problmes in over 386,000 miles. Cummins has been testing this set up for several years and I think by now they have 99% of the problems worked out. My self I don't think the new 6.7L will have the problmes with EGR like the 6 oh no did.

6.7?

I slipped under the wire on a special ordered '07. I occasionally(very seldom actually)travel to Mexico and needed something that Pemex wouldn't destroy. A 6.7 would not have cut it. I see you live in a Mexican bordering state like me,so that may be a consideration to you. The Aisen six-speed tranny on the C&C would be a must along with a custom utility bed if I would have gone with a 6.7. I feel Cummins has done their homework. Hopefully Dodge has done theirs. Posts so far look promising, with the exception of more expensive filters and accessibility factors.

Never thought about the south of the border aspect??? Glad I have the 5.9 so I dont have to carry every drop of diesel that I need to use while down there. They still have the good diesel (lots of sulfur)

Personally I would go with the 5.9L but I'm excited to see how the 6.7 does, obviously you might be taking a little more risk with the 6.7 being a new motor and all but that is up to you, hopefully DC stands behind their trucks if any issues arise with them

I am sure 6.7 is a good set up, but I don't want to deal with EGR and the other emissions required on all diesels built after 01/01/07. This is why I bought an 06 with the 5.9. Great gas mileage great track record.

Chevy has not had many problems relating to their EGR over the last 5 years. Europe has had EGR for some time with diesel that has three times the sulfur that our new ULSD has, and the love the oil burners over there.
There is risk associated with the new motor, but I do not expect it to be the flop that the 6.OH is. That motor is a POS if it did not have EGR on it. Many people want to justify their purchse by downgrading the new technology. I have 181,000 on my 2004 and would love to have a different truck. I will either trade for a used 2004 5.9 soon or wait until the fall and get a 6.7 after 6 months of road experince
