'06 off road package?
 

What are the components for the off road package for '06?
I was told my truck has a dealer, or factory lift, forget which.
Is there anyway to know more about the factory lift of the truck? Parts used, etc. I don't see this information on the window sticker, just the replacement of the standard tires and wheels from, LT265170R17E BSW All Season Tires, 17" x 8.0" Steel Chrome Clad Wheels
To the optional equipment, LT265/70R17E OWL On-Off-Road Tires - $200, 17" x 8.0" Forged Aluminum Wheels - $345
I was told the shocks are changed.
But how is the lift achieved?
What is lifting the suspension?

I dont think their is much in the way of and off-road package for the diesel trucks. Just options like the upgraded wheel package, skid plate, anti-slip diff. are about it for good things to have for off-roading.

Lifts, bigger tires are all dealer add-ons. Better to do it yourself as they just add a good markup on it and usually do it the cheapest/easiest way.

This is right from jdpower's website. "Also available is a TRX4 off-road package with a limited-slip differential, skid plates, unique shocks, and off-road tires." The only 2500 that has an added factory lift is the powerwagon and it's only 2", but combined with the bigger tires adds a little more.

You can get a steering , and a fuel tank skid plate from the dealer .Most trucks have the transfer case plate and of course tow hooks,that dont stick out enough.

The unique shocks mean they're painted red.

Maybe, but I've never had a 2nd or 3rd gen Ram that the shocks weren't junk after just a few miles....EXCEPT, an '01 1500 Off Road pkg truck with the red shocks. Sold that truck w/ 120k mi and the "red" shocks were still good.
AFAIK, the '01 1500 "off Road" and Power wagons are the only trucks with a factory lift (2").

I have a TRX 4, and that package comes with the Anti-Spin rear diff., tow hooks, foglights, red painted shocks, sat. ready radio, and my favorite is the grill is the color of the truck, not the standard chrome.

My "off-road" package includes on an 05:

Skid plates
Tow package
Snow plow prep
Transfer case and fuel tank skid plates
Anti-spin
Red shocks (That I think are shot)

No lift

I recently bought a 2006 Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel 4x4. The dealer said it was the TRX4 package - and that it was a "Power Wagon". It does have the large shocks/springs (the red ones mentioned in thread), tow hooks on front, and sway bar and - they look factory to me. He said all that was added was a leveling kit...which is obvious b/c its on 35 inch Coopers. SO, what is the real deal. The only badging on the truck is the 2500 and Cummins badge. Do they even make the "Power Wagon" in a diesel - I thought no. How do you know if its TRX4 or Sport? Just want to make sure I am accurately describing the truck I own! I was mainly in it for 5.9 Turbo Diesel...the rest is icing...

No the Power Wagon was just in a Hemi. I have a TRX4 Package and all I think they do is firm up the springs and shocks to make it ride even worse, and add those terrible decals. I have had two different TRX4's. One in a 2500 Hemi and one in a 2500 CTD (current). They both ride like crap, but the hemi truck was the most terrible riding truck on the planet. Even after Bilstein's both trucks ride less than good. My old 07 Mega Cummins on 315's rode like a caddy, all stock.

I believe the TRX4 Package adds 4.10 gears also to go with the non-slip rear. Both of TRX4's I have owned have had em. I also don't have a color matched grill on my 04.5. I think they started doing that later on. I would stay away from TRX4 if I had a choice, mostly because they seem to ride worse where we drive them, on the street....

My body matched grille as per factory sticker is not body color, I argued and gave up.

My gears are 3:73

I have all the skid plates

Don't recall what else was in the package, I have the sticker at home. If I remember I'll post it.

Joel: The PW has electronically disconnect for the sway bar, none of the Cummins do and therefore are not PW's. I believe the PW is also taller and has Cab lights standard.

BamaTJ, Im surprised you dont like the way TRX4 rides...mine feels very smoothe and eats the road up. Maybe its b/c I had a basic 4.7 1500 before and felt every bump and down shift. I drove the thing from Orlando to AL with cruise on 77 and felt like I was on an air rail.

Yeah, I don't know what it is about the ride but it none of them come close to the ride of my 5.9 Megacab. It was a great riding truck, might of been the larger tires took more of the bumps. That truck got terrible mileage though, so I got rid of it. I guess the 4.10's is just a coincidence for me then. I think as a whole most manfacturers just start stiffing up the ride with their "off rd packages". I know the ford equivalent rides like a dump truck, whereas a normal super duty rides pretty good.

Overall I think the cheesy stickers and red shocks are not really worth much extra. I peeled my stickers off and just replaced all the shocks[laugh]

I would not go seeking a TRX4 truck, but I guess they are not a bad find if you come across one. Don't let people fool you into thinking it is something special though, nowhere near the same as a power wagon.
