06 auto no second gear

I have a 06 3500 auto with no second gear. I can still drive the truck in first and it will shift into third, no second. If I am going up a hill it will not shift out of first. I can't afford a new tranny, I have 82,000 miles with no performance goodies, all stock. I use it for my auto glass business, so it does have a box on the back. It weighs a little more than stock but it is a wind brick. I have done 2 tranny services with a little debris in the pan but nothing unexpeceted. I read a post about a second shift lever breaking, can this be found/fixed without a tranny rebuild or replacement? I am in the denver area so any help would be appreciated.

I just had mine fixed for the same problem. Im, over the coarse of 3-4 days got gradually worse till there was no second gear. It ended up being the front (kick-down) band. When i list the band it ate the drum. I found a local guy here to fix just the band and drum without insisting on a full rebuild. the band was around $40. The drums new are $600 at the deal but my guy got me a reconditioned drum for under $300. I then went ahead and did a VB and a shift kit, since he had it all out anyway for just the parts. I paid right around $1100. Didnt thin kit was that bad of a price.

If you want to check to see if it is the band try to do an adjustment on it. If you have to turn the screw more than 2- 2.5 turns the band is gone. I think specs are 72 in-fts and back it off 1.25 turns and tighten the stop nut. That is what m y guy had me do to make sure it was what he thought it was.

Good luck.
