05 Doesn't downshift, starts in 3rd-I think
Hello, I have an 05 Dually, automatic. When I come to a stop, the tranny does not downshift, and I have to take off in what feels like 3rd. Sometimes, when I stop at a red light, a couple seconds after I'm stopped, I feel a slight surge (the tranny finally shifts into 1st), and then it shifts fine.
It is stock, with 110k on it. I had the tranny flushed at 80k. I have never liked how this truck shifts, but now I know there is a problem. Also, since I'm here, I am sick of the burned oil odor. I ran Rotella the first 100k, then switched to Delo after reading about RoSmella, but it still smells. And there are no leaks, and the oil level is always full. Any advice for #1 or #2 would be appreciated. Thanks! Dave |
for # 2 lengthen the blow-by tube with some brass barbed fittings and hose, worked for me.
as for #1 i have no clue. can you manually shift it into 1st ? |
tmt25,
My 01 did the very same thing. It wound up being the governor pressure sensor. I replaced the sensor and the governor pressure solenoid at the same time and the problem went away. hth Dave |
Thanks for the replies. I can manually shift it into first. What does lengthening the blow by tube do?
|
lengthening the blow by tube just moves the blow by gases from the front of the truck (where your cab air comes from) to someplace else. my blow by tube has been lengthened to just behind the t-case.

When mine did this last year Dodge replaced the valve body and solenoids.
