05 with bad serp belt
Why don't you take it back to the dealer & make them fix it under warranty? You paid for the warranty when you purchased the truck, might as well take advantage of it.

I asked my dealer and was told it was a wearable item.. I had already changed it with a napa one for $37.00.... Lifetime warranty on the napa!!!!!!!!!!!!! go with it. I don't think that the dc one will be worth the hassle since it will more than likely blow out again. The napa part number is 25-081265 good luck
The belts are covered under 3/36 dont let them BS you guys. Ive done three of them. I could never figure out why the were chewing up but after i replace them i never saw the problem again. Maybe there were a batch of belts that got out at the factory that might have been cut or scored.

Seems to be a recurring problem that has NO root cause. As you said, once the replacement goes on, all seems to be well. And yes, the dealer SHOULD do this under warranty. Mine did. Most of us who have had this happen have had NO pulley or tensioner misalignment issues. My personal theory is mis-installation at the factory.

I had the same problem with my belt with about 3k miles. Took it to the dealer and they replaced it. No poblems again. Looks lke the belt was installed incorrectly at the factory. The belt was not alligned correctly on one of the pulleys and this caused the belt to rub on the edge.

i had a belt on mine start to shreek and look worn at 20k miles. took it to the dealer and said it needed to be replaced. came back to pick it up and the dipchit gave me a bill for about 200 bucks. i said why are you charging me and he said it isnt covered. i tried to rationalize with him but he was a moron, said it was a wearable item. i told him a belt shouldnt go bad in 10 months and 20k miles on it. he began being arrogant and said heres the number for dc, call them and complain to them. in the meantime he said i couldnt get my truck till i paid for it. i went out and sat on hold with dc for 20 min. i went to my truck, got the warranty stuff out and nowhere does it say that the belts are not covered. he kept trying to tell me that it states this in my warranty book. i was furious at this point, had to go back to work and was late. i went back in and raised hell with this idiot. i slammed the book down and asked him to show me where it says the belt is not covered. he was like uhh, there is more warranty info than what you have here. I started hollering at him and telling him he is a moron and that everytime i have been in here there has been a problem. Not to mention that this is the same guy who lied and screwed up my TSB a few months back. The service manager walked over as i am ripping this guy a new one and she asked was what happening. The guy says i wont pay for the belt and says it isnt covered. the manager said who told you that? he points to the other moron who i had dealt with in the past and she said yeah it isnt covered. The manager shook her head and told me it WAS covered and proceeded to take care of it for me. i looked at the two morons with an evil smirk like grin and then looked away. It all got taken care of and was over. I havent had a problem since and actually havent seen either one of those people working there. GEEZ If i didnt fight it i would have gotten screwed. How many other people get screwed ? sounds like a racket to me
Thanks for that story. But, you're ANOTHER one whose belt has shredded at low mileage. That makes almost two dozen (by my informal count on here and TDR who have had this happen.
Again I ask (to any of the Dodge techs on here):
Pretty much all of us (with the exception of two or three, have only had the belts replaced, and nothing else. Dealers told us "defective belt" or "installed wrong".
I, for one, would like to know what is REALLY happening, so that I can stop checking my belt once a week, because I don't trust it.
On edit:
Thanks for the FEAD update, we posted at the same time. So, is there thinking that there is some sort of problem, and do you think there may be a TSB? Shouldn't be this many "bad" or "misinstalled" belts.

And why are these shredding and breaking on these 04.5 and up motors with low mileage?
