03 to 06ish differences

Hey everyone i am gonna be picking up a 03 common rail to swap into my kaiser m715.I was wondering what are the differences from the 03 to the newer higher horsepower ctds?? is there any internal differences?? Just wondering,i dont know much about these new ctd.I had a first gen and loved it so i think the common rail will be a nice swap for my kaiser.I want to make some power and didnt know if 03 was a bad year or not? i can get the motor very cheap. let me know thanks Mike

Well, the 06 has a slightly larger turbo, and came with a cat, where the 2003 HO did not. It seems like there might have been a difference between the 03 SO and HO, too, like maybe piston cooling oil jets or something, but I can't remember.

I don't think 03 HO was a bad year. On the contrary, they seem to be a bit more fuel efficient.

my neighbors 03, gets a lot better mileage than my 06... I average around 14-15 in town... I borrowed their truck yesterday, which the wife drives around town and the overhead was reading 20.7.... I commented on it, she said it has been as high as like 25 and has been hand verified....

Yeah, my 03 could get 21+ on the highway if I kept speed down.

I might get 19+ on the highway with the 06, but not all of the difference can be attributed to the motor. The 06 is a dually, and also the G56 transmission's OD isn't as high.

My 03 overhead is reading as high as 29.3, but I have to verify by hand what I'm actually getting. I'm nearing 750 on the tank with 1/8th tank left.
