03/06 Diesel rear temp?
03/06 Diesel rear temp?
Hi Guys, I have 3.7 ratio AAM 11.5 rear,06 Diesel single wheels.
What do you get ? empty or pulling a trailer.
I could find only 3 posts like my truck of 160 degrees pulling a 10k+ trailer.
Empty I see 150 degrees, 60 OAT @ 65 MPH. It was about 130 before brgs change.
I guess the TTR, torq to rotate is on the high side now, temp @ pinion area.
I have used the infered temp gage checking Rears,U-joints,Brgs for years.
A change in the trend can indicate a problem.
Having a recent maint problem will make me watch the magnet, temp
and dial indicate for any output shaft play.
Also I have a constant vibration from 67 to 80, the U joints seem OK.
Thanks allot for temp input on the same rear
Happy Day

160 is great. I have TCs on my boxes but I haven't plugged in the Fluke 52 for years. Rear and trans would hit 200-225 towing hard, IIRC. My total rolling tq was down to 10" already at 25k miles when I bought the truck in 05. I replaced the pinion seal last fall and it still felt good and no play on the dial indicator. From experience... Watch the magnet closely. That's about the best early warning there is, other than noise and excess heat. I went up in weight grade and I got the metal to nearly completely disappear. Craig
Temps please
Now about 600 miles later I'm wondering what to do next.
About 200 miles 3 times since the 3rd service, Brg metal on magnet.
Maybe check combined TTR without talking it apart ?
I should have watched both Pinion alone and Carrier combined TTR and writen down the numbers.
I didn't see the combined checked.
Flat road, 70 OAT
65MPH 3k trailer 182 degree rear.
70 MPH 3k trailer 195 degree rear.
