$150 for an oil change?

For the heck of it, I called up a local place to see how much to get an oil change on my '07, since I've got my hands full with everything else going on.

$150. Wow. I asked what kind of oil they used. "Whatever we're provided by our supplier, probably Pennzoil or Castrol." OK what type of filter do you use? "Oh, whatever the supplier gives us." ....I don't even recognize the name. "Oh well you see it's a special canister filter!"

I pretty much laughed at him and told him no thanks.

$7.95 Fleetguard LF3972
$45-$60 3 gallons of oil

$100 in labor to remove the drain plug? *** am I missing here?

Must be that "it's a diesel" thing...

That's outrageous. I take mine to the dealer in Boise and for $160 we get 4 oil changes with Valvoline Blue and filters. I can't even begin to touch that price if I were to do it myself.

It's a package deal they offer and I know its tracked for any "warranty claims" that I might need to make in the future.

I buy my own oil (Amsoil order $97.45) and a local shop will change it for $19.99. $100 in labor is crazy, even if it included the fuel filter, after reading the thread on how easy it was to do myself. I just don't have the shop or capacity for 3 gallons of used oil. Best of luck and at least you asked prior to letting them perform the service then see the bill.

I'm right at about $45 in oil/filter, and do it myself... easy as pie..

I use Delo400 I buy at costco, and buy the Fleetguard stratopore from Genos.

wow $150. I'm in the wrong line of work haha.

Crazy indeed. Rotella is $11.99 a gallon, filter what $13 now? I'll keep the change and get my hands dirty.

Besides you never know who's working on your stuff, could be some 19yr kid that doesn't know jack about diesels, and just gets minimum wage to change oil and thats it.

I wouldn't want a rookie tech messing with my $8-10k engine

no thankyou!!!

You got the good price for sure. I bought a four pack of changes a few months back from a dealer. It was $200 then, still a good deal IMO.

Up here the local dodge dealer wants $15.00 a liter for Mobil1 synthetic, $20.00 for the filter and $30.00 labour.

$215.00 JUST for a synthetic oil change.

Needless to say, I do all my own maintenance...

I just got a coupon for a diesel oil change at my local dealer for $49.95. At that price, I'll try it, that's only a few bucks more than if I do it and I don't have to worry bout gettin dirty since I don't have a garage any more.

Why even change the oil? I just take a sample, drop the oil filter and install a new one that's been filled with makup oil. I haven't changed the oil in over 3 years and it's still good.

That sounds about right, I've seen similar prices for this area.
