Convert Quad cab Short box to dually with Mega-cab parts.

Gents, I'm a long time reader but 1st time poster here...

I have this crazy idea that I have been thinking about. Converting my 2wd QC short box to a dually with Mega-cab parts.
ie. using the mega-cab dually box and rear axle. Wheels and the front hub adapter would be simple.

Am I missing anything here? Other than cost, it appears to be very simple bolt-on conversion using all factory parts.

I haven't seen anyone else discuss this.. Any thoughts?

...Joe

You don't need the Mega cab box do you? Just need the fender flares and a dually rear end.

Duallydog, you are right.. I don't really need the entire Dually short bed box but it should be a simple bolt on (after painting) and then no need to cut up my original box.

Forum moderators please move to the correct forum... thanks...Joe.

Actually what I would do is make up some steel fender flares for it. But that's just me, I don't like seeing banged up fenders.

Must be a case of great minds thinking alike. I called my Dodge dealer yesterday. The Mega Cab dually rear fenders are C$700.00 each. I couldn't find any in any bone yards from Canada to Mexico. I'l leaving my front wheels stock but the one thing I don't know is if the rear axles are the same width from hub to hub on the SRW as on the DRW. If not I might have to buy a spacer.

Stock dually rear wheels are dirt cheap from wreckers. I hope to be able to do the whole thing for about C$1500.00.

Redram, I knew the parts from the dealer would be expensive but CDN$700 for each fender is nuts.
My plan would be to find a take-off bed or used parts or swap with a dually megacab owner who wants to go SRW. (Wish me luck on the last option!).

Unfortunately, the dually rear axles are significantly wider than the rear axles for the SRW trucks.
I don't think spacers would be the way to go.

Bumping, anyone else considering this?

Anyone even photoshop this?

What would a QC shortbox dually look like with the Megacab dually short bed box on it?

That's what I was thinking would be the best place to get some mega-dually rear fenders.

Thats a good idea there was a post on here a month or so ago who had taken his mega fenders off and added the longer fenders from a QC it looked really good it was very smooth looking.

You will need rear spacers.

The SRW axle hub is not long enough to allow the inner DRW wheel enough clearance between the springs and calipers.

I have a friend in PA that's currently looking to convert his 2500 4x4 SRW to a DRW. He tried a friend's spare from a dually just this past weekend and it won't clear. He has a 2005 RAM 2500 325/610 truck w/11.50 axle.

I'd imagine you will need aftermarket spacers----like what's used on the DRW trucks between the wheels----for wider tires----installed on the axle before you install the inner rear wheel.

This place can probably help you more :
