I know there is a lot of threads on bad fuel mileage but I have some info that might help. I have a friend that bought an '03 new in Wisconsin, and got 20 mpg+ all of the time. They moved to Pueblo, CO and started noticing their mileage and power dropping steadily to the point that with the same loads on a trailer they couldn't keep up with my 1997. I suggested and they tried replacing the air and fuel filter as well as having a reflash done (which helped very little) and had the flow control valve checked and I also looked for the rubbing wire under the A/C. He had been using Schaeffer fuel treatment at the recommended doses and the fellow that sends it to them (as well as their motor oil) told him to double the dose. The mileage and power came back to the tune of 19+ mpg and all the power it had when it was new. Could it have been dirty injectors? I don't know but it's running like is should every since. Do you run the same fuel treatment? If so has it seemed to keep your 97 running clean with no power loss due to clogged injectors ETC.?

No, I currently don't run any additives at all. Although after his experience I might have to look into it.
