Wicked weird fuel guage
So I filled my truck up the other and the gauge went up as it normally would. Them after driving about 220 miles it was still stuck on F. (I get good fuel mileage how ever not that kid lmao) anyway ever since then it has been stuck on full. I hit a bump and the gauge went down to three quarters of a tank and then it went right back up to full again. I do not know what the problem is but the only I can think of is either the gauge or the float in the tank it stuck up. Let me know what you think thanks.

2nd gen fuel senders in the tank are notorious for crapping out.
There is a gauge cluster test but I can't remember how to do it. I suspect a search here may bring up the process.

Friend of mine had that happen to his truck and took it to he dealer.
Service writer laid down and gave the tank a good kick, gauge dropped off of full.
Told him to only fill the tank to the second automatic gas station shutoff like it says in the owner's manual.
He quit filling his tank to the brim and hasn't had a problem for years.

The sender rheostat is pretty flimsy and lies right in the path of the inlet hose. The high speed pumps blast it and bend the wand according to brighter bulbs than me.
When I fill up I set the thing on the second ledge on the pump trigger and round to the nearest .50 or .00. I don't know why, my dad always did that!
Dropping the tank to r/r is no big deal if you run it down to under 5 gallons and have a floor jack and 12" square piece of plywood. Don't ask me how I know......
