Unplugged abs pump relay...plugged back in...and abs light and brake light still on?!

well i unplugged the ABS pump relay from the relay box on the driver's side to see how much better the truck would brake...wow what a difference...if u have good feel and can control ur foot then u do not need that ABS!...anyhow...I plugged it back in[laugh] and the light won't go out (abs and brake)...the brakes fine...no leaks...i just want to clear the light

I've been fighting the same issue for the past 6 months.......... the only things i haven't checked or switched are the front wheel sensors.

I had a similar problem. I had to pull the ABS cartridge fuse to temporarily replace another bad fuse. When I returned the ABS fuse to it's proper location, the ABS lamp would not reset. It took a trip from San Jose, Ca. to Death Valley and half way back before it cleared itself.

i have heard two methods for things like this...one is to unplugthe battery for an hour and reconnect...anothet thing i read is that it takes 50 starts to clear the light?

I've had this happen a couple of times. On a '95 when a brake code is set it's called a hard code, it won't go away by just disconnecting the batteries. DC's way of making sure you take care of an all important brake problem. You have to go though 60 start the engine, shut it down cycles to clear the code. Just turning from off to on doesn't work, the engine has to start and stop.
Either that or find someone with a scan tool to clear the code.
What I've done is just live with it, then one day it's all the sudden gone.

thats not so bad thanks Bill...60 starts ? that will take me 3 weeks ..not an issue

my abs / brake lights have been on for over 40,000 miles and I probably start mine 10 times a day. I've put a new rear wheel speed sensor, a brake light switch, tried pulling the fuse and reinstalling it trick (which works until I get up to 65 m.p.h. again). I just gave up on trying to fix it. I've even put electrical tape on the dash to cover the lights.[duhhh]

If that's the case something is still setting a code.

Mine was on for over 2 years and the other day, I ran over some small shrubs on the ranch and it pulled 2 vacum lines loose near the t-case. When I hooked them back up, the ABS and Brake light were off. It seems weird now, looking down on my dash and not seeing it light up like a Christmas tree..... I guess I kinda liked seeing 5 or 6 lights on at the same time......

Replaced abs, speed sensor in rear, transmission shifts better but abs light comes on at low speeds, and truck is hard to stop at low speeds, thanks
