Underhood wiring issues, and no dash/tail lights

I have a couple questions regarding wiring on my 94 12 valve. long story short I had to replace the interior harness because of burned wires (it was like that when I got it). Since I've installed the new harness my dash and tail lights don't work. All the fuses appear fine and have replaced the headlight switch and harness. I removed the trailer brake controller and harness as well.?
Any idea what could have caused this? Also the PO has some jumble of wires beside the drivers battery and I need help sorting them out. I know the blue is for the FSS but that's it(which I'm assuming is why the motor doesn't shut off when I turn the key off, but if I bump the FSS with my finger it shuts down). Pic is of the stellar job by the battery

Normally the FSS is pushed down by a strong spring, and has 2 magnetic coils.
A strong one, activated by the starter position on the ignition switch pulls up the plunger, a weaker one that holds the plunger up as long as you have the ignition on.
Since you can push your FSS with a finger, it seems that the spring went missing.
