Traveling 2500 Miles With 175,000 miles - Would You Do It?
I need to make a 2500mi round trip and my truck has 175,000 miles on it.
Would you do it, without hesitation?
Anything I should do except changing the fluids?
I havent had the truck that long.... maybe six months but during the time I have had it I have replaced....
brake pads - front and rear
front rotors - they were cracked
upper and lower radiator hoses
flushed the coolant
changed the thermo (cause I ruined the seal)
dealer said he had the trans rebuilt it does have new fluid
replaced the serpentine belt
replaced the water pump
replaced the shocks
installed +2" springs
4 new tires
changed the oil and filter
installed a bhaf and heat sheild
the lp reads 15psi
and the vp44 appears to be new
Would you do it, without hesitation?

If you have been maintaining it, don't worry about it and just go for it. Sure things could happen down the road but if you worry about that, you'll never go anywhere.
I'm sitting at about 125,000 miles and never even give it a thought to go on a road trip at any time.

Ditto that for me to. I also have over 172K and the only thing I ever worry about is the vp, wish I did'nt even know about it's problems. I say use it or get rid of it.

As long as you have maintained it, IE fixed stuff when it shows signs of wear, instead of waiting until it falls off the truck. I have 250,000 miles and I am planning on a 2500 trip to Baton Rouge next month as well as several other 1000 mile trips and daily driving, all mostly pulling.

I wouldn't hesitate to do it. Every year I take a 4k mile round trip drive over spring break with my truck towing a trailer and the truck has not lived an easy life.
Just leave yourself with enough time that you don't get in trouble if the weather or a mechanical problem slows you down.

Last spring I did 2400mi roundtrip Calgary AB to Moab UT pulling my Jeep on a trailer.
3 years ago I did 3600mi roundtrip Calgary Ab to Tok Alaska with a slide in camper, that was with my old '92 Dodge Cummins.
Both had about 177,000 miles on them at that time.
Check it over before you go, check fluids and fan belt and then hit the road.

Just look it over good (or pay a shop to do it). I'm check the frequency of avalibility of diesel ahead of time if you're headed to remote parts of the country. AAA and a pay phone can get you out of a lot - and believe me' I've used them...
Take along a good digital camera and use it on your trip - might as well enjoy it...

I'd do it. If your confidence in it allows you to drive it everyday then there's no reason to not take it on a trip.
My uncle just bought a new Toyota (I think a Camery) and didn't even make it home with it. The car accumulated a stagering 11 miles on the odometer before the engine siezed on his way home with it from the dealer. The moral is, if it's gonna break down, it can do it at any time, anywhere, reguardless of age or milage. The worst part was he told me it happened during rush hour traffic. He said he didn't even have the chance to get the car above 35 mph.
