Track Bar
Probably a dumb question made too complicated, but here goes....

I am going to replace the track bar on my '00 2500. I know that some of the aftermarket bars are "adjustable". I am looking for one that is adjustable in length, not necessarily the ball socket. Can any of you that have this type give some info on who makes it, and if you are happy with it?

Second question: When the trackbar is replaced, have any of you checked the alignment of the axle in reference to the frame? If so, which is better, squaring the control arms by diagonal measurement, or using a reference point on the frame directly above the axle and squaring from that, or both?

Hopefully I am going to do what the dealer could not do in seven tries, an make my truck go straight!!

Thanks for any info.

Bump. I don't know the answer Max, but I figured I'd bring this back up to the top. Hopefully, someone knows.

Re:Track Bar
My dad called me this morning and said his track bar on his 01' is worn out and wanted me to find out what kind of aftermarket track bar he should get. I thought I had read somewhere that DT makes a good one and if they do, where can he buy one.
Thanks,
Dustin

Re:Track Bar
Do a search under "track bar" or "death wobble". Sometime ago (1 - 2 months??) replacement parts were discussed.

Re:Track Bar
I did some research, and I like the DT track bar. Looks like tis built to handle the job, modifies the design in a way that improves it, and seems to install fairly easily.

The method of getting one ordered seems to be to call them on their toll free number and talk to them about it.

Re:Track Bar
I used DT Trackbar on my 1999 worked great and replaced that weak little ball joint with HEIM joint and is adjustable not cheep but would do again if I had to. Truck steers better than it ever has. Installed about 20k miles ago :)

Re:Track Bar
DT and Luke's Link are both awesome products. I ordered my DT today and the Luke's Link is next on the list...at least the "suspension list" that is ;D I know guys running both and have hear nothing but good!

Re:Track Bar
DT is a high quality piece of work-it's not cheap but very little that's truly quality is. The frame bracket is something to see.....I couldn't produce something like that in a million years of trying. It is fully adjustable for length and both ends (the Heim joint at the frame end and the poly bushing at the axle end) are serviceable so assuming you don't whack it with something and bend it it will last the lifetime of your truck.

I centered mine Max by measuring the control arm-to-frame distance on each side and then eyeballing the tire-to-fender clearance.

HTH
Jason
Re:Track Bar
I know one thing, after having had a so called death wobble happen to me and causing me to lose control at 70 mph, while driving my fathers '96 I never want it to happen to me so I think I will also order a dt track bar now. I have never been so scared in my life [yuk] . You would think a problem that dangerous would involve some kind of recall, I am surprised that there has not been an uprising of firestone proportions. I would advise everyone to replace the track bar at the first hint of a problem.
