towing/original tranny 146K

Just bought a 5 ton trailer (pintal hitch) for my dodge. I'm planning on using it for moving small farm tractors around. This truck still has the original tranny (146K) I've driven it like grandma and I had the tranny pan off at 125K to change the filter and fluid, the pan was pretty much spotless. I'm going to stay off the interstate and just go a few miles on a two lane road. Keep it out of OD? Any suggestions?

Yes, keeping it out of OD will help to keep your heat down from slippage.

Other than that you should be fine.

Please tell me that it's FIRST fluid/filter change wasn't at 125K miles?????

I think a tranny temp gauge would be a great help. Mine weighs over 11000 and there are times you don't expect it to be heating that it is really getting very hot. I just put mine on and was really surprised. Up hills slow - reverse and sitting in traffic in drive really heat it.

Stay out of OD and get a temp gauge. it will get hot quick backing up and such
