Towing Lights

If I am towing another 2500 with my 2500, what would I need to do to get the tail lights, blinkers & brake lights to work. Could I run a pig tail from the tow vehicle to the pig tail of the towed vehicle & it work in reverse fashion. I know to take the rear shaft out. Would it be necessary to take the front shaft out? Thanks

When I had to flat tow a 79 rc behind my 79 rc, I used a long flat 4 wire harness desighned for trailers. I plugged it into the plug on the towing truck, but spliced into the wires on the towed truck with the splices that don't require cutting the wire.

it worked great. All lights worked as they should, and once i put 'in tow' on the back, I was legal in all the states I had to drive thru (trip from ny to va).

it may work like you asked, but I didn't want any of the front lights on the towed truck to come on, as I didn't want to risk it giving me problems with night vision seeing behind the towed truck.

By splicing in as I did, only the rear lights on the towed truck worked.

I had brake lights, turn signals, and parking/running lights back there.

BE SURE IF YOU DO THAT TO UNPLUG THE TOWED VEHICLE'S BRAKE CONTROLLER, as you will COOK it.

I think there are relays for the trailer turn signals, so not sure how that would work out. My 1500 has one of those cheapo Hoppy connectors for the tail lights right on the back. A pigtail into that would work for the rear lights, and that may be the way to go.
