Hey, looking at new tires for my 99 Ram 2500. I do a lot of driving on gravel, snow-lots of snow-and the nastiest mud anywhere. Mechanic says Toyo Open Country A-T. He has never been wrong about anything else. Any ideas?

I have had my eyes on the mud terrains made by:
cooper stt
nitto
Toyo is great but everyone has them
fierce attitude
Pro comp xtreme mud
Just get load range E :)

I went to "E" series Hankook tires...Only 800 miles on them...Seem good on my dually..

I had very good luck with General Grabber AT2s in the past but not on this truck, I have Treadwright BFG AT clones on the truck now and they work fine

If you spend a fair amount of time in the nasty stuff,and by your description you do,Depending of course on your budget I have never been let down by good old interco super swampers,Tough as nails made in the USA ,not cheap but you get what you pay for,I'm on my 5'th set (different trucks over the years)I've used the hard core boggers,the standard TSL bias and the TSL radial,I just Boudht a set of SSR radials and I love them,they ride really quiet for a tire that is as agressive as these are,thay are a load rande E and so far I have hit the snow at the end of this past winter,spent time cwaling over slippery boulders and sharp ledges and soupy mud holes without a hiccup.

Thanks Trust, Whiskers, and green95. Haven't pulled the trigger yet. My tire dealer expressed shock that the Yokohama Geolander A/T's they recommended have cupped badly after 10,000 miles, and have no tread left-maybe 1/4 inch after 25,000 miles. Of course they blamed me and my truck.

That sounds like a bad trac bar, ball joints and tie rod ends, better check that out too....

Thanks SIXSLUG, had all of those checked out. New track bar, checked out ball joints and tie rod ends by three different mechanics, and a couple of alignments. Even went through heck to get OE rims that were straight. Another couple of tire guys said that they had problems with Geolanders cupping also. If I find something I am happy with I will post. Might be a while...

I hated my open country A/Ts in the snow -mud-wet grass but I did get 40000 miles out of them

I have run the geolanders but they had to be rotated alot to prevent cupping .02

Thanks rebal, I was just going through my receipts so I could take them in to the dealership. How much tire rotation is enough? I have receipts for 6 rotations plus 2 that I wouldn't take a receipt for in 25,000 miles. Wouldn't take the receipt for one rotation-they had to cut off three of my studs to get the tires off. I know that happens sometimes but... When I got the truck back on the last time, 2 of my aftermarket valve stem covers and caps were missing-(not expensive-but still...) By the way, I like your signature line.

I ran geolanders once. NEVER again!

I dont remember how many times for sure but it was like every 4-5k miles

Toyo makes a good tire ... as joem mentioned 'Toyo is great, but everyone has em' ..... including hundreds of tire shops (replacement-warranty)

Run an 'E' load rating .....

I've always had good luck with Toyo's .......
