Tire questions
 

It's about time for me to get new tires again and this is what I've narrowed my search down to. I would like to hear your opinion or experience on the tires listed below. I need a good, year round tire that can handle Minnesota winters and forest roads in the spring and fall. I have the stock 6.5in steel wheels. I'm currently running Toyo at in 265 don't like how the sidewall has a squat to them. If anyone has pictures of 235/85s on a SRW truck, that would also be great. I've searched here and on other sites with great results, but kind of dated threads. Thanks in advance for your help.

M55s
or Courser C/Ts



In 265/75 size:

GY Adventure Pro Grade
Hankook RF10

or Cooper S/T MAXX in 255/85

You might also look at 255/85 tires as well, but they're getting tougher to find these days it seems.

The winder tires I got are Cooper Discoverers and they've held up pretty well.

Not exactly what you asked for, but here is my Greenie with stock wheels and 235-85-16 Cooper ST's.

This is my second set and I will keep running them as long as they produce them. They are fan-freakin tastic in snow ( as long as you don't high center the stupid truck.....[redface] ) and will dig holes right now, they don't quit. Not a soft terrain or deep mud tire, they just will dig to China.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I would love to get tires in 255/85 size. I was quoted 1417.00 OTD for Toyo M55s in 255/85:o To rich for my blood. I never really considered the Cooper ST. Isn't the Cooper ST MAXX supposed to be the commercial tire replacement for the old Cooper ST-C? 235/85s don't look too skinny at all. Thanks for posting pictures.

Mine are a bit bigger, 265/70r 17 but I always buy Michelin`s this time the LTX m&s 2 E rated, got them in Arizona at the tire rack they had a deal on and they were about $985 bucks for 4, love them, had the AT 2`s last time, changed them out with about 50k miles, they had some miles left, but I tow a 36ft 5th wheel with a hitch weight of around 2500 lbs so my thoughts are better safe than sorry, just my .2c worth

I ran the bridgestone dueler AT revos in that size on my rear duals on my '95 and loved them. Did well towing, heavy loaded bed, and in sand.

I now run 265/70-17's on my '03 and again...love them.

My tire place tried to talk me into the MAXX, about the only difference I saw was they added some side lugs and changed the tread just a bit. I am pretty superstitious and regimented, so I told them no way. Looking at it now, I think I would have given them a shot. They are also available in 255/85/16, which brings you from the 9.5 section width to 10.2, and 32.8 diameter versus 31.7.

I will probably get a set of 255's next time, and might try the MAXX. That will be a few years though, I get good wear out of the Coopers.

Well the 265s are out. I just don't like the way they look on my 6.5in rims. I've read a lot of the dmax guys like the BFG traction t/as, only a few dodge guys running the BFGs. Anyone here have any input on the BFGs? or the M55s in 235/85? I'd LOVE to get the M55s in 255/85 but its pricey

Avoid the BFG's.

I just got rid of the one's on the wife's '06 as it was the source of our death wobble. Had the entire front end checked out (again) since we did have a failed steering gear box about 2 years ago and everything checked out okay.

I did replace the shocks once the tires were swapped out and we got a clean bill of health on the front end (and an alignment, too) since we were at 60k miles.

Drives like a totally different truck.

Are you referring to BFG All Terrains or the Tractions T/As?

I had exactly one set of the BFG's, NEVER AGAIN.

They lasted all of 20K miles, and the sidewall squirm was much worse than the Coopers when loaded. They did ride a bit better.

This was the BFG AT's.

I think the Dodge is just too heavy on the front for them.

I have never heard anyone not love the M55's, but as you say, pricey.

I used to run M-55s but started running Toyo H/T about five years ago and like them much better.
Way quieter on the highway and gained about 1-2 mpg.
With them siped they work just as well and the M-55 on Montana forest roads, snow and ice.

I can get the original STs in 255/85 for about 1k OTD. How do they run on plowed roads? Another guy I know said he LOVES the STs in snow nut I've read a lot of bad reviews elsewhere but never from the horses mouth.

I swear by them in the snow, like I said, just don't high center the truck....... Inside joke, I have a terrible time remembering just how long my truck is, and I always manage to high center it.....

Well, I found a deal on Cooper STs so here they are in 255/85r16. Load range D
I'm running 65/65 PSI empty. Sound about right?
