Swap a 6' bed for an 8' bed??
I am looking at an 01 quad cab and unfortunately it has a 6' bed. I am wondering how hard it is to swap a 6' for an 8'? Are the frames the same length, and how much work will I be getting myself into? Painting is no problem I have got that covered. Lastly, how much does a bed go for?
Thanks,
Paul
PS I tried searching and couldn't find anything

Frame is not the same, 8ft is 2ft longer.
Do a search, you'll find out Dodge didn't have many frame lenghts in 2500 and 3500, I believe just 2: single cab long box has same frame as quad can short box, but quad cab long box is the longest available.
Besides the 2 ft extra bed will look very goofy on a shorter frame.

I know a guy who took a reg cab long bed and made it into a cc longbed. Where the frame straightens out under the bed, he just cut and welded in (I think it was C channel). Truck looks factory, don't know how strong it would be in a crash though. It can be done if you have welding skills and the nerve to split a frame in half.

Kinda costly to do it that way, and it would be one less of the already less common quad shorty's. I know next summer I'm gonna find a 2wd reg cab and shorten the frame and bed. Make my own with mini drag truck with a cummins. I can't wait!

We all know that, but certainly is no longer a "cut frame and weld it longer, that's it" job.
Lengthening the shaft means finding a shop that rebuilds it, balances is and has it ready to go, this means approx $ 350.00 extra.
You could also get one at a junkyard for $ 200.00, but that's no longer an easy job.
