Starting in 2000 or 01, 2500's with optional Camper Package and/or Tow Package got 265/75/16's!

I have both options so not sure if each individually got the 265's?

Trucks with the wider alloy rims came with 265/75 tires. Steel rims are only 6.5" wide and technically not rated for anything wider than a 245/75 tire.
As of 2005 no duallies came with 235/85 tires. I switched to 235/85 on my truck and a shop that only did things "by the book" would not install the tires on my truck.

Changing from 245/75 to 235/85 corrected my speedo. It originally read a touch fast.

The best way to check your speedo is to hop on the freeway and reset your trip-o-meter as you pass a mile marker. With 285's, your odometer should turn 9.3 miles after you pass 10 mile markers meaning your speedo is 7% slow.

It is incorrect to assume your speedo is off by 5mph or 7 mph etc, the amount of correction varies with speed.

If you really want an accurate reading, reset your trip ometer and drive 100 miles. With 285's, your trip o meter should read somewhere between 92.9 and 94.1 miles depending on tire wear, air pressure, speed traveled, load on truck, etc. 100 - 92.9 is 7.1 or 7.1% correction. If you multiply your speedo by 1.071, you'd have a pretty accurate idea of your current speed.

In my experience, 7% is a great approximation and 65mph on the speedometer calculates to 69.9 mph.

70mph on speedo is 75.3 mph.

Don't drive yourself crazy trying to perfectly calculate speed, tire wear, tire air pressure, and load all effect your speedo since the tires squat down and don't quite cover as much ground each revolution.

I think the tire sizes kind of bounced around a little over the years depending on GVW and purpose. My Dad ordered the "mud and snow" tires for his instead of the stock Michelins and got Goodyear Garbage 265/75-16's. They went about 25K and were an upgrade so he paid extra for it.

i was wondering if those 265/75-16s are more of a wider aggressive look than the 225/75-16s

They'd be taller by 40mm and wider by 30mm so about an inch if I did the conversion right.......tread design style would affect appearance...Mud/snow is usually chunkier than all season or hiway rib.

The speedo reads a bit low on most Dodge products. Going up a tire size has helped on every one I've tried (89-05).

That's a good point, I run a couple sizes taller than stock and my speedo is dead on with my gps....
