hello,

I am wondering what size my size tires my truck came with stock. It has 285's on it now but they are not stock. i want to know so that i can calculate how much my speedometer is off. My dad's truck came stock with 235's. if this is the case my truck's speedometer is off by about 11mph. I just want to know how much it is off so if i don't get pulled over for speeding. also in town i can use the bigger tires exscuse but i want to have some sort of idea of how much it is off.

My 97 came with 245/75-16 from the factory

 

hmm,

My 1500 has 245's stock.

I would look up the tire size in the manual but i do not have it. i will look around a little more.

 

Should be posted on your door, but 2nd. Gen 2500's all came with 245/75/16 tires, at least to my knowledge. ( At least in the 16" tire era. )

 

Mine's a bit newer, but 245/75 is on the door sticker. However it came with 265/75's as a factory option according to the build sheet.

From what I recall, the only 2nd gens to come with 235/85s standard were the 3500 duallies.

 

Look on the tag inside the driver side door opening. It probably has the tire size listed.

 

They must of made changes from 95 to 96 duallies...My 95 came in as having 215/80 as stock tires.

My truck had been repainted before and there is no tag on the door

So i guess i will calculate the speed difference. cause it seems like im going so slow by lookin at the speedo.

but then again i can be going 50 and it seems like 20 to me.

Get a buddy to ride with you with a GPS it's pretty much dead on.

 

My speedometer with 285/75's is only off by 3 mph at 65mph. That was checked with a GPS.

The 285/75's I have on now are only an inch taller than the 265/75's I had on. 265/75's are the same diameter as a 235/85.

 

there is an online calculator for it,

and it is showing that it puts the speedometer off by 5 mph. The other result i got from it i must have put 65 in instead of 75 for the 245's. But it is weird because it only lifts the truck 2" but this truck sits waaay higher than my dad's 97 2500. And there is no lift on it that i can tell. I might measure the front coils and the rear leafs/blocks from the two trucks but it just seems i have to step up into this truck. And I am pretty "EDIT: tall" 6' 4" so it just seems weird.

if that calculation is right i don't have to worry about the speed than.

You're a pretty 6'4" huh?

Get a GPS unit and check it out. I'm not sure "bigger tires officer" is a legitimate excuse to get out of a ticket, I'm sure it won't work around here, but you say you are a pretty 6'4"!

Yea i made a mistake. I realized that while i was doing that calculator thing that i did it wrong and stopped mid sentence.

Around here i know most of the cops so the bigger tires thing will work.

I think the tire sizes kind of bounced around a little over the years depending on GVW and purpose. My Dad ordered the "mud and snow" tires for his instead of the stock Michelins and got Goodyear Garbage 265/75-16's. They went about 25K and were an upgrade so he paid extra for it.
