Question steering wheel jerking when turning slightly

I went & got a load of wood, had to use 4-low, to get out, popped it back in 2-hi, came back 35 miles home. I didn't notice anything unusual. I let her set for a couple days, then I went to leave the driveway, I noticed it felt different. It would jerk a little when it was turned a little, kind of like it was still in 4 wheel drive, but it wasn't. I also noticed a slight squeek with each bump I felt in the steering. I remember now, I used to feel this on slick ice or snowpack, but this is the first I felt it on dry roads. My guess is the U-joint or both on the front axle(s). Can anyone help me with any ideas. Does any one else's dodge junp a little when turning on dry or slick surfaces? Thanks, Marv.

You were right. It's still in 4x4, even though the light isn't on.

Do you really think its still in 4 low? I had something similiar to what your describing, turn slightly the steering wheel feels like its loose or you feel and hear a light popping noise, mine was a bad steering bushing. But it did not jump at all just a mild popping noise and loose steering when I turned felt like I could move the column up and down as I turned.

I don't understand how it could still be in 4x4, and the light not be on. Is this a common problem? Is there something going out? What kind of engagement system do we have on these trucks? Thanks, Marv.
