Steering Problems

I'm having an audible humming or groaning sound when I turn the steering wheel to the right. I can also feel a steady, smooth vibration in the steering wheel while turning to the right. It happens at low speed, turning corners, on various terrain, and turning the wheel while sitting still. This only happens when turning to the right.

I've had several steering/front end components replaced... tie rods, trac bar, stabilizer, etc.. due to normal wear. Wondering what could be causing this... power steering pump?... steering box/gear?... or something else I'm missing? Any help please...

Have you checked power steering fluid?

yeah check your power steering fluid, also if its cold out sometimes mine "moans". other than that steering gear or pump might be getting worn.

Fluid level is fine, and fluid looks good. Is there a way to check the steering box/gear for signs of wear or do I just have to take it to the dealer??

As for the possibility of it being a hub, I thought these were not serviceable. Again time to take it to the dealer???

It's not a major issue at this time, more annoying than anything else. Just thought I might try and solve the "situation" before it became a "problem".

Power Steering Assist Fix

ProspectorTim,

Just wanted to say thanks for the link. It worked GREAT!!! I took the vacuum pump and power steering assembly off to replace the leaky oil seal on the vacuum pump. While I was at it I figured I would service the PS pump. Cleaned everything up, flushed lines, steering box, hydroboost and replaced with sythetic fluid and the difference is amazing. Very smooth, effortless turning, no niose or vibration anymore. THANKS very much!!!

Wheel Alignment

I am looking to buy a used 2500 4x4. The current owner tells me that he has a wheel alignment done every year and the tires rotated as well. What might the annual wheel alignment be telling me about the front end?
