Sport grill question

I was looking to convert my front grill to a sport grill. Do i need to buy the sport mounting bracket or do they use the same mounting bracket?

Grill mounts the same, it's your front bumper that will require the bracket.

The "Sport Grill " is about 1 1/2 inch taller than the standard grill. And the mounting bracket is different too. Not to mention the bumper assy being different, and the sport bumper uses different mounting brackets too. It could get expensive doing a change

I've seen numerious trucks with just the sport grill, and even had one friend claim to install one without a hitch. Of course they could have been blowing smoke up my you know who, though...

I think you can buy the older style sport grill and it is the exact same dimensions as the standard chrome grill but paintable to the truck color. If cost is a concern and you are just looking to get rid of the chrome this may be a cheaper alternative.

Pre 99 sport grills were the same, just painted instead of crome. You can buy black grills, that you can then paint - on ebay for around $30.

I was looking at the LMC one that is chrome. I dont want a sport bumper. I just like the sport grill better. If it is 1 1/2" taller it souldnt matter because I have a body lift and it moved the front bumper down some so I should have room.

I just had the sport bumper put on my 2002 and there is a gap that wasn't there with the original bumper. The grill for the sport is longer and rounded corners on the bottom whereas the other is flat with actual corners on the bottom. I am looking to get a sport grill come spring. Just measured and you would need at least 1 1/2 inches for the sport grill to fit without riding on the bumper. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in because I am actually looking at the changes you are talking about.
