Some trip notes
Just got back from a trip over to Kalispell, MT and had some things to note.
1. My new tires make a huge difference in ride and steering feel over the old Dean M/T's I had on it. Back to E range Toyo's....[guitar] 2. Fuel mileage hand calc'd was impressive for winter blend at 17.2 mpg with speeds averaging 60.2 mph from GPS. Corrected for speedo being off by about 1 MPH....[guitar] 3. Blocked half of radiator and noted temps stick at 190F on gauge whereas unblocked radiator fluctuates every time therm opens, which may have contributed to good mpg's...[guitar] 4. Side mirrors have both lost main glass heat, just convex's clear. Have power to connectors on main glass, but no grid heating[verymad] 5. Drivers approaching West coast at end of trip get exponentially worse and rude at Steven Pass' crest, dangerous lane changes and passing, tailgating etc....glad to be home safe! |
My original mirror heaters died too, and I did not put too much use on them. Only way I know of to fix them is to pop the glass off, peel off the old heater, and stick on a new one.
Or just replace the mirrors with the CoolVue mirrors, which is a very popular mod. They are power, heated, and they flip out for towing. |
I have the coolvue mirrors. They were good for about 4 winters then the main glass heaters quit.
|
I know you can buy the heater elements, just have to get the right dimensions, voltage, and heat output (Watts).
The OEM mirrors are double side taped to the pan/tilt assembly, and can be pryed off gently to replace the heater. I am not sure how the CoolVue mirrors are mounted to its pan/tilt assembly. I don't know of anyone that has ever taken one apart. |
There has been a few threads on it, but usually the glass gets broken and isn't available for replacement is what I have found out...
