Soaking carpets after rain...another one!
 

Ok so I'm going to add to the never ending list of posts about rain making its way onto the floor. I finally had the opportunity to strip the interior and set the carpet aside to dry after giving it a good steam clean. I moved the canopy back and sorted out the third brake light issue (made a new gasket and silconed it on) that I thought was contributing to the issue of water on both the driver side and passenger side. Today with the carpet out it rained pretty hard and with the truck parked I found 3 leaking spots.

1. It seems water is getting in through the condensate line hole but unsure why it would if the truck wasn't being run and water is not dripping down the firewall. The foam above the tube is not wet and the tube is protruding.
2. I followed another trail of water up on the passenger side just forward of the door hinge bolts. There is a small hole with some seam putty visible and a trickle of water coming in. I'll probably just put some silicone on it from the inside but it is really hard to reach. It only leaks when water is poured on the hinges but I can't figure out how it is getting in as the hole is not visible from the outside.
3. There is another trickle of water coming down from the driver's side B pillar area. I haven't pulled the panel off yet but that will happen tomorrow. I'm sure I'm in for more frustration.

Any help about leaks 1 and 2 would be great. Hopefully leak 3 isn't an issue.

ever have the windsheild replaced?if it's leaking from one of the top corner's,the water could run down the A-piller.

water can also follow wire's into the cab,if the grommet is bad or to big for the wire.leave's in the cowl area can plug drain's too,making water get into the heater airbox on alot of different vehicle's

could be roof light gaskets ?

The truck was my father in laws as so I'm going to check and see if the windshield has ever been replaced but we've had it for a few years now and I haven't. There are no clearance lights so that can be ruled out and I pulled the cowl cover off and cleaned out a small amount of needles that didn't seem to be the issue. I was targeting areas of the windshield to see if leaks were coming in that way but found that water directly on the hinge area was the issue. That has me confused. I'm not ruling out the glass seal yet but would rather that be the last resort. I've looked for anywhere water could follow wires in such as the antenna or missing plugs. I'll keep plugging away. At least without the carpet it is easier to dry things up.

Sounds like your truck may have possibly not gotten completely caulked during assembly. This is a long shot but as I riffled thru my service manual the other day I noticed a big section on how the body is seamed together and where it should be welded. A peek at this section may help if you can find/get access to a FSM.

I think you might be on to something. I was looking for cracked caulking on the seams but found nothing. This internal seam spot I found is strange so I'm going to take the caulking gun and give it a coat. I'll then give it a leak check.

seam sealer is an issue on alot of vehicle's.you wouldn't believe the seam sealer on a jeep commander,it is just awful at the bottom of the windsheild.everytime i cut a sheild out of one,the hole's need to be filled,because the sealer come's off with the urethane bed.if you don't,there will be a pond on the floor inside the truck.

Try to get your hands on a FSM. There's a ton of seams that get sealed in there. I hope this helps you out!

little off subject but if you guys ever need carpet, spend the extra money and get the mopar carpet. im a tight Edit and bought aftermarket carpet twice and it didnt fit good and tha color was off.

A bad brake lamp gasket will cause all sorts of leaks. It will run down both B pillars depending on which way the truck is leaning. It will drip out by the top of the windshield right in front of your face. It will also run down the A pillars. Get some thin stick on weatherstrip material from box store and stick it to the back of the lense where the old gasket was. Seam at bottom! A dry floor smells much better!

If the truck was parked on a slope in the uphill direction, the rain water will get in. Have the truck parked the opposite way will prevent this.

Cover the truck's exhaust vents located at the bottom rear of both door jams with tape.
All windows up, turn the fan on high.
This will pressurize the cab, now you can spray the outside with soapy water and follow the bubbles to any leaks.

I had my rear window pulled and resealed with urathane(sp), then siliconed the 3rd brake light. Now if the rain blows hard on the back, it'll leak just a little where the slider comes together. Some one tried to open it so it is not "just right". Mine leaked for so long with the po that the carpet was rotten....I am running carpet-less for now, but not getting 3" of water in the floor.

My truck has a leak too...So I am running carpetless until I can find the source. If I park my truck facing downhill a little bit of water will puddle up on the floor on the passengers side. If I park it facing uphill it stays dry.

Diesel Dawg, check your 3rd brake light, I pulled the headliner and backwall panel and could watch it run in going down the road.
