Question Shocks,Tires,Or Ball Joints First?

Title says it all..This truck {2-wheel drive} needs tires, shocks and ball joints. What should I do first shocks or ball joints? OR should I not worry and get decent tires on it first because rains are coming in northern california and I want to have some meat on the ground..thanks.

I would go ball joints, shocks and then tires.

replace your ball joints first, or alignment will be off. possibly scrubbing your new tires.

tires would be next, shocks can wait for last

Ditto. This would cause the least amount of wear on the new shoes.

Kinda all depends on the actual condition of the ball joints, shocks and tires and how much/critical your driving the truck is.

If you got to have it to work, to pay the bills, you need them all to be safe and at least function to some degree! If your tires have steel exposed on the sides, they're first! If not, you can possibly wait some. If the shocks allow your truck to bobble down the road, you're unsafe and need to get that corrected ASAP! And ball joints can cause catastrophic problems if you let them stay on tooooo.. long. So if all are totally shot, park the truck until it can be fixed to be safe for you and other road users.

If you're just wanting to improve your truck as you're using it, as mentioned before, the ball joints need attention before the tires. Shocks and tires depend on their safety condition.

D2 cat laid it out much better than me. I was going with the assumption of low funds and all really bad.

if your tires are showing wires... then it's scrubbing way too bad for new tires. ball joints first... then wheel alignment? it should go back to original position, but with new tires. chancy...

some parts stores will loan you the ball joint press for free. call around for prices. brands on large OEM type parts makes less differance, then say waterpumps.

the ball joints aren't seriously BAD..they just clank and pop some on really bumpy or pothole ridden streets, otherwise they don't make noise..shocks especially the rears are really bad...the truck bounces more than twice at highway speeds over some whoopties in the freeway lol ...and the tires aren't showing the steel yet,so..i guess i will have to make the call, I appreciate the help guys.

On my ’96, the lower ball joints were really loose, like ¼ inch of play!

So I took the whole thing apart and replaced all the ball joints, and all the control arm bushings, repacked the bearings, and new brake pads. I could have just replaced the lower ball joints, but I wanted to get it all in one shot. Check your control arm bushings, if there gone, now is the perfect time to get new ones. Also its much easier if you take the control arms off and have a shop press in your joints and bushings, cost me only $40 for labor. For me shocks and tires are the last, and easiest. Going with Bilstein shocks, I heard they are great.
