My 97 3500 is running on 16's the newer tucks run 17's is the bolt pattern on the rims the same?was thinking of putting 17's on my truck to maybe get a few extra mpg.

The 17" rims off of my 07 2500HD fit onto a 2001 Dodge 2500 that had 16's. i am pretty sure its the same bolt pattern for your truck.

All 8 lug trucks r the same bolt pattern except for the 99 and up ford super dodo’s

are any of the stockers bigger than 17's that will fit the dodge don't have to be pretty just get more mpg.thanks for the info

how will 17 inch rims get you better mpg's

if thats the case then i should be in the 20 mpg area[laugh] (i' m in the 11-15 mpg range[yuk])

X2 the wheels arent going to do a thing for your MPG.

You turn a lower RPM at highway speeds. You can get a small increase in MPG with a larger wheel.

only if you have a different size tire will you achieve this. the wheel makes no difference. if you run the same size tire on a larger rim all you did was add weight. you could just put different sized tires on to achieve what you are trying to achieve.

Youd get a lower rpm with bigger tires, but that dosent matter what size wheel you use. But i would think whatever is gained from lower rpm would be lost with the added effort the truck usses to turn a bigger tire. I dont know if im missing something but I dont see wheel size doing anything.

Correct. I just didn't say that much as I was assuming that we were talking about the same tire size in relation to aspect ratio. Like going from a 265 70 16 to a 265 70 17

Make sure you check that the wheels will actually rotate when you tighten the lug nuts up before shelling out any money for them. I had a Chrysler rim for a spare that jammed up on the A-frame when I had a flat front tire. I believe they changed the rims in '98.

I replaced my stock 16" rims with 235/85/16 tires with '05 aluminum 17" rims with the stock 265/70/17 tires. the tires are practically identical in diameter, but the new 17" rims and tires are wider. I plan to replace those tires with one size larger tires later on and thought the wider rim would support a larger tire better. however I find that 17" tire sizes are more limited than I was hoping, I would love to have 265/80/17E tires but they do not exist.

I was fearfull the extra drag from the wider tire would decrease my mileage but I have not noticed it yet. However I have noticed a slight rub on the brakelines when the wheels are at full turn so I have to adjust the lines to keep them out of the way. They do look really nice though!

the 3rd gen has bigger front rotor's and need's the bigger rim for clearance.bigger rim will decrease tire sidewall,with the same over all diameter.maybe give you better handling with a rougher ride

Aren't tires for 17" wheels just a wee bit more expensive than for 16" wheels?
