Replacing Heater Core?
Replacing Heater Core?
I need to replace my heater core and was just wondering if I need to pull the whole dash off and if I need to discharge my a/c. If any one has any helpful pointers I would greatly appreciate it! I have a Chiltons manual 94-01 for it and the setup it shows is not the right one, the dash and locations of the bolts are not at all the same. I would really like to get some heat since it is 15 below tonight and only reached a high of about 7 degrees today! I am sick and tired of scraping ice off of the inside of my windows while going down the road!
Thanks a million!

Don't know about replacing just the heater core but I replaced mine when I put in a new dash. I would say that you would have to "let the dash down" to get to it and IIRC, you will have to discharge the a/c unless you don't have to pull the HVAC box out. I pulled my box out because it was easier for me to get to everything and since I had never done it before, I didn't want to screw anything up. Also be sure and mark your vacuum lines and where they go. I would say, rotate the dash down and go from there.
Also, I would go ahead and get the new plastic clips that the top of the dash attaches to in the firewall. Mine were brittle and I broke 3 of the 5 when trying to re-attach and had to wait 3 days for the new ones to come in.
