I can't figure this out. PS resevior was overflowing @ a year ago so started throwing parts at it. PS pump was first and I rebuilt the vacuum pump while I had it off. Not too long after that, the problem came back and I was continually taking fluid out of the PS resevior so it would stop overflowing. Then I started researching and came to the conclusion that my hydroboost was having a severe case of "leak down". Replaced that 6 mths ago and all was well until the other day and I noticed it was puking fluid again. It only seems to do it when the temps are above 65* and I haven't added anymore fluid, I've just been steadily taking it out. I use a small Mighty Vac and normally fill it up twice. The fluid is blackish in color but I really don't think its from the crankcase...actually I don't see how it could even get in there. Brake fluid level is fine. I did flush the system when I did the hydroboost. Any ideas before I start throwing more money on this thing?

 

That's a really interesting problem, my seal is bad between the two, I think I get small amounts of oil in my PS, but not like this. Be nice if someone knew what's causing your problem. Ideas?

 

I have read about engine oil going into the power steering pump through the seal. It sounds crazy, but it must be possible. A new seal is only about $11 through Cummins.

 

Which seal are you talking about? I don't have any leaks anywhere that I can see so it must be an internal thing. I'm stumped.
