OBDII Scanner Help
OBDII Scanner Help
This is a repost from a different section:
I'm needing to clear some embedded codes before I buy a VP-44 and went to Autozone but theirs could only see the companion code(1693)...IIRC and I called the company and they said they wouldn't work right on a diesel. I've got 3 codes when I do the key trick but can't find a scanner that's reasonably priced that can get them out. Has anyone tried these from Harbour Freight:

I'm needing to find one local so I can get on the ball and get my truck fixed and would like to have one anyway.

Drive to another autozone or competitor. The cheap code readers will clear them. In Nashville, the store won't clear them ... purportedly because of local emission laws. In such case, you can borrow/rent the scanner & clear them yourself.
All the auto parts stores sell scanners that will work on diesels and clear codes. Pep Boys, Sears any of them and for the price range you have listed I would get one of the Auto parts stores offerings instead of HF.
I use a Scan Gage 11 and it is a nice one, but my son bought a handheld one from either Autozone or O'rilley's for around $135.00 that works very well. Try getting on the web sites of the major auto supply stores and you will find some nice scanners within the price range you have listed for Harbor Freight prices.

I discovered that you need to get one with the enhanced features or it won't pick up all the codes. I finally found one at Orielly's but returned it because it wouldn't clear my 0622 and 1725?? code but at least they showed up.
I've about decided to just drive the truck until it completely stops and then I'll know for sure what's broken.
