New steering box is bad within one month!!!
New steering box is bad within one month!!!
Guys I'm really PO, I bought a new PSC box a month ago and it's worst than the orginal leaky, loose, and worn box I took off my truck. My truck has never pulled to the right until I installed the new box, its sometimes hard to turn, and has a lot of slop and getting worst. I can hear the box make a clunking noise from the slop. I even crawled under the truck to verify it while my wife turned the wheel back and forth.
Should the box be adjusted after a break in period or something?
Maybe I just got a bad box, I that's the case. It PO me off because I spend more money for a box I thought was a one time deal. if I'd known I would be replacing the box this quick I would have bought a cheap retail box.
Any recommendations?

I found when I installed my PSC that the steering pump on my truck was tired and didnt supply enough pressure. Symptoms were random episodes of no power assist. New pump and all is well.
Dunno what to say about the new gearbox. Do you have oversized tires or ride offroad? You might want a DSS to take the load off the sector shaft if you do.

I started thinking about hard to steer, I think it be air still in the line, no problem. I'm running 265/75/16, not too big of a tire. I already have a DSS on it.
The slop after one month concerns me. It's bad and the box clunks while turning the wheel back and forth.

Did you buy a new OEM Dodge or a reman aftermarket.
If aftermarket take it back and get your money back, they are ALL junk.
I replaced 3 of them within 5000 miles, finally got my money back and got a used one from junkyard with low miles....
They don't rebuild them, they just replace seals, tighten the nut a little and that's it. They might work on 1500s but not on heavy diesels

You sound like me. I'm on my 4th PSC box and I still haven't found one that's right. I've got a 4 week old power steering pump and a 2000 mile PSC box and you can twist the wheel a couple of inches in each direction before the pitman arm even starts to move. It's not the shaft either cause you can grab the shaft and twist it and watch it turn the input on the box but the pitman arm won't move. I've tried screwing the adjustment screw in 3/4 of a turn and it didn't do anything. If anything it made it worse cause now it feels like it's binding when trying to go to full lock. I don't know what to do.
I want to add a little here if I can.
I bought a Napa reman last fall and within a short time my steering was sloppy and loose as when I had the old box in it.
I tried the over-center adjustment and that did nothing. I replaced all front end components and still didn't make much of a difference.
Well, I had my wife turn the wheel when the truck wasn't running and sitting still. I noticed that there was a lot of play and it was all coming from the box.
I in turn pulled the steering shaft and noticed a lot of side to side movement in the input shaft. Kind t'd me off since the box only had 3000 miles on it. Well, I decided to pull of the input shaft nut and sleeve that held the input bearing in the box. Well, after tightening down the input collar and then putting it back on the box I noticed a lot of the slop was gone in my steering. I then did one more adjustment and almost removed all the slack. Theres still a little so I might do a little more adjusting.
I don't know if this could make any difference for any of you, but it sure made a world of difference in my steering.
Have a good one.

I talked to PSC today. They're sending me a new box. The drifting or pulling to the right is caused by a valve pin or something that's not right in the box. I dread taking that box off again.
Great customer service!!!!!!

So is it best to just go to the Dodge dealer and grt abox there, than gamble on over the counter? How about a jobber and the DSS to take the load? Also how can you make sure you get the 31/4 turn box ,I thought I read somewher that the 2-wheel drive 2500 box was the right ratio ? my box leaks so bad that its like undercoating down there.
