Do it right first time or you'll be redoing it over and over again.
Use good quality epoxy primer like SPI that will seal off moisture and give paint good adhesion.
While repainting it might as well fix all the dents/dings it has.

The sun shortens the life of a paint job in hotter climates. If you have a car port, that helps. I don't, and it's fairly obvious when looking at my truck. I have an old race car that always has been indoors. It was painted in '92. The paint looks brand new. My brother's daily driver, always outside, painted in '00 by the same shop and same brand of base/clear is showing it's age.
