Talking "New" 97 Truck!

Hey! I am making the switch from a First gen to a Second gen Dodge. I have had a 91 for a while and I wanted something that rode a little smoother. I have been looking for the "Magic Truck" for a year and a half. I think I finally found it day before yesterday. I hope so anyway, I brought it home last night. It is a 97 Ext cab 2500 with 71 K miles on it. ACTUAL MILES!!! The guy was almost as meticulous as I am. The worst part about it is it needs a complete paint job due to the delamination that happens on so many of these trucks. I think I can handle that. It has a lot of accessories that now I don't have to add It sure does ride good. Anyway, got to go to work. I 'll have my first generation for sale!

Congratulations on your find and purchase. I think if your willing to put the time and effort in you could probably get your truck painted by Chrysler due to bad paint issues they had. Someone posted an excellent thread a while back about the steps to go through for it, do a search on it and you should be able to find it. Congrats again and have fun with it. Greg

This website has better and more up to date instructions on getting DC to pay for a paint job. Chyrsler will fight you every step of the way until small claims court then most likely won't show up because they know they are going to lose.

will they really paint an 8 year old truck????

We got our 88 Chev Dually Crew Cab repainted back in the day for free. the hood and roof were peeling off like crazy. But truck was only maybe 3 or 4 years old.

Yes, the pre '97 paint problem is called a known defect, it was there when the truck was made. That means it failed during the warranty period even though it took years to show up.
