Every year we must drive across Minnesota where the stations carry only 10% biodiesel. I've read that this generation of truck is made to burn 5% maximum. I'm not sure what damage the additional biodiesel does, but seems I read that it can harm your injection pump for one thing. I just installed a new Blue Chip Diesel IP and don't want to damage it, but must travel at least 800 miles through Minnesota. I do not have an auxillary tank. Suggestions on how to handle this?

B20 will be fine. I've actually run B100 a couple of times with no damage. Figure that you will have some plain old dino juice in the tank anyway so the final mix will be less than 10% anyway.

I wish I could get B..ANYTHING around here. Every place that was selling it stopped. Even the Navy bases stopped selling it.

I live in Minn. I've gone through all the bio diesel entry, upgrades and startup problems.
Today Minn bio diesel can be up to 20%. It's very clean. I've never seen water in it. Since bio started I've not used any additives. Bio is better than any of them. I already have 300k miles on my second VP 44. The truck still runs very well, gets excellent mileage, starts in our nasty winters.

I wouldn't worry about the biodiesel. You may get a clogged fuel filter the first few times as biodiesel is a good fuel solvent. Other than that enjoy your trip.

Thanks for that comment! I'll not worry about it again.

You might want to keep an eye on it since bio will absorb water, so running a good biocide once in a while won't hurt but it sure will help.

HMX, I'm not sure what a biocide is. I assume it kills the bacteria, but have never heard of this. I use Howes additive, is this a biocide?

Power Service makes it, it's called Bio Kleen.
