Manual to power tow mirrors question
Manual to power tow mirrors question
Hello, I am about done fighting my passenger mirror that no longer stays adjusted the right way so I am gonna break down and buy new mirrors. The ones I have are manual, but I would like to go to power so I can adjust on the fly if needed. I browsed some of the threads and found that Kool Vue did/does have them, but I also saw that they might not anymore. I checked their website, but no luck. If anyone knows where to get them I would appreciate it. Also, what all is required to go from non power to power. adapter plates, a/c panels, *****,...? Thanks
I have considered swapping my towing mirrors for aftermarket electronic towing mirrors but I never got around to it. That said, I understand that the assembly line uses the same wire harnesses so all the wiring is right there but all you have to do is connect.
That may be the case, but I'd grab the wiring diagrams and follow the circuits from one end to the other to avoid surprises. Have seen cases where the door harnesses may have all the wiring, but the dash harness that they plug into may not, etc. I sure hope it's all there, would make for a nice clean install.
You may possibly have the wiring already in place....the Flip out tow mirrors were an option and deleted the power/heated mickey mouse mirrors.
If you pull the dash bezel surround you will find the A/C panel controller easy to remove, the plug will be at the lower left for the mirror heat switch. If it is there you have the harness in the doors and its an easy instal.
Since you have non heated flip outs you won't need the backer plates. You will need a mirror controller, they are the same 94-02 RAM and Dakota.
The A/C panel you will need to find from e bay or a junk yard. I got mine for 65 bucks. You want the one with the mirror button on the lower left hand corner and you are set.
I had to trim some plastic off the corner of the controller switch because it hit one of the bolts that holds the mirror on.
Check ebay for the power heated tow mirrors for your year. You can find a manufacturer name sometimes and go direct.
Mine have been great, just lost the heat feature on the main glass passenger side last winter, I may take it apart and find out why this summer....

The only reason a harness connection would or wouldnt be there would be due to changes in model years.
I should add that Rockauto has a decent selection of replacements. I got the factory style flip out tow mirrors (power) for mine like Dodge offered in manual on the later 2nd gens. I had power mirrors already on my 96, so the conversion was relatively simple. The connectors weren't right but I easily figured out the pinout and put 96 connectors onto the new mirrors, very happy with the result.

Your 02 will take Kool-Vues connector,,,,it doesn't work on pre 2000 IIRC, but the mirrors will fit any 94-02 if 2500 0r 3500.
Search Kool Vue for some past threads where you will find the model number, its like, 95EG-R/95EG-L or something, I can't presently recall

google 94-2002 dodge 2500 power mirrors. you will quickly find that alot of manufactures made these at one time. get multiple part numbers and then you can further your searches on ebay, amazon and google with those.
I had the smaller sport mirrors that were electrically adjusted with the big wand stick on the door. when i bought my truck the PO took those off and replaced with the bigger non electric flip out's.
when i searched this topic a few years ago I thought i was told that the connection end that I have behind my door panel matches only the connection end on the sport style mirrors and the connection on the flip outs are different.
if they are i would think you can find the correct connector or just hard wire.

I think I am gonna probably go with what RockAuto has. I went through them when I restored my previous dodge and had good luck with the quality. They list the mirrors for 110 a side. The only thing that I haven't found is the control **** to adjust them. I probably can find this at a junkyard though. Other than that I think I will be good to go. Thanks again
