lights flicker
lights flicker
A few months ago my lights, headlights, interior lights, etc all started to flicker, not real bad, but enough to notice. Now its a lot worse. Its a random flicker, not a regular thing like when the intake heaters cycle, and is only apparent after the truck has been running for 15-30 minutes.
Could this be a dying alternator? Gee, I've only got 187000 miles on it.
I don't think its the headlight switch, as it affects everything, the voltage to everything is going up/down slightly.
The flicker is really annoying on a dark highway at night. The headlights on a 1997 are barely adequate to start with.

you might want to check your battery connections and make sure there ok as well.
The batterys do act like a voltage regulator to a certain extent so you should not be getting a fluctuation any greater than if the truck is off with the lights on.
I would guess its the alternator if that checks out ok as my truck was doing something simular. I new something was wrong when I checked the alternator and it was hotter than a fire cracker and I had not had any of the lights on. Put a new one on and all was well in the electrical world. lol
