Installing flexible fuel lines on 1996 3500

I need some suggestion as to how to get the flexible fuel lines back on the studs that come off the top of the tank. There is a raised ring on the studs and the replacement fuel line wont slide over it. Ive thought about heating the fuel line, but not sure the best way to do that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

plastic or steel barbs? mine were steel, then they rotted out so i replaced the module that came through with plastic barbs. they originally had some quick disconnect settup on there. you might have to go to dodge for those?

Just use a little bit of vaseline. I used that and they still fit tight, but went on without much problem. Good luck!

I just replaced a few hoses on mine since I had one heck of a leak on the return when I got home.
The trick I used was to soak the end of the hose in boiling hot water for a couple minutes to soften it up. This works really well on the trident marine stuff with the plastic liner in it.

You guys are running rubber lines from the engine all the way back to the tank? Your steel lines rot out I take it?

They have a tendency to spring leaks anywhere from the engine to tank. Replacing with hose the entire length is good insurance, cheaper in the long run and easier. Plus if you use high quality USCG rated hose you're likely to never have to deal with fuel/air leaks again.

lines replaced

Once I got the tank down, the metal lines tucked in behind the tank had lots of rust on them. Other than getting the flex lines back on the tank studs (I soaked the flex lines in boiling water and they went on), it wasnt too bad. Be careful getting the electical connector apart on top of the tank. It has an odd locking clip on it.

Success...thanks for the help

I want to thank all that responded with help. The sending us is installed along with new fuel lines and is working fine. A big strap wrench is the way to go on removing the cap on the fule tank.

KDP fix is next!
