My truck is an 02 SLT.

Can I just install tow hooks from the dealer? Or is it not that simple?

I have no decent tow points on the front end without them...

 

I bought a kit from the dealer... a little spendy, but it worked great. ~$100 is what I paid

On your 02, all the holes should be there to bolt them up...it calls for 6 or 7 per hook, I have 4. I've pulled about 12-14 tons of truck and trailer from one hook, no problems! Only rated for 10K per hook, too

For about the same money you can mount a front reciever hitch kit which allows different types of hooks and puts the towing stress to more connection points and equalizes the pressure on the frame side to side. The factory tow hooks are prone to straightening because of the open loop design where as the reciever can accept a custom closed loop with proper shackle(clevis) for towing and lifting. If you need to be towed out and you use a single hook on 1 side of the frame the stress from the pull or jerk can spring your frame especially if loaded. The front receiver has all kinds of uses the tow hooks don't. PK

Doesn't this hang low and kill clearence?

The one that we mounted on my buddies 01 dually does go below the stock bumper but it fits tight to it and is even with the front bumper. PK

 

"Ratsun" has a pic in his gallery...I think someone else does as well.

 

Just hook it to your motor. If you pull on it, that's half the weight of the truck. Actually don't do that come to think of it.

 

I put on a front receiver I ordered from Miley RV.com. It fit tightly to the underside. So much so that I had to cut the plastic license plate holder a little bit.

 

How about this HOHN, I'll buy a front reciever, and sell you my tow hooks??

Sorry the pics a little dark but I had to cut the plastic air dam to slide the receiver hole on the hitch up into. Found a neat little fold-up step to slide in and keep out the crud.

 

front receiver is the only way to go...

 

I like the idea of the front receiver.

I might just have to buy a moose killer bumper to "properly" install it, hehe.
