to those who have had this problem what are the potential causes/fixes.

Many, search "dreaded 3 honk" in this section...usually wet lock switches but mine still occasionally toots in the dead heat of a dry summer....some say its the battery in your key fob going bad, didn't stop mine from occasionally honking 3 times...
