Help with cab light styles

Hi, this is my first post but I've been lurking for awhile. Anyway, my '98 has the old style clearance lights. The teardrop shaped ones. From 99-02 they had a different style, which I like much better (the flatter ones). Well, it looks to me like the screws are spaced the same on both styles so theoretically I should be able to swap lenses. Or can I? If no one knows could someone maybe measure the width in between the screws on their 99-02's, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

1.75" is the spacing on the screw holes, with a 7/8" hole in the center for the wiring/bulb.

Cool! Thanks alot. Thats the same measurement I got. Was the measurement you took like the center of each screw to screw? Thats how I got 1.75, on the nose actually. That makes me think that they made them like that on purpose so that new templates didn't have to be made for the newer trucks. It should work out well since my brother wants to add them to his truck but wants the teardrop style like I've got. Me and him are gonna both pitch in and buy a new style kit and I'll swap the new lenses to my truck and we'll install the kit with old lenses on his truck.

Yep, center to center, as measured on the template from my kit. If you use the template for installation on the truck that has none now, it is a little off, as it is designed for a 3rd gen truck. To be more accurate you can drill the holes from the inside, and there are already 7/8" holes on the cab support in the exact pattern needed for the lights. You will see these when you pull the headliner.

Do a search on Cab Lights here and you should find a link from another member who did a great job of documenting his installation, including dealing with the wrong template situation.
