heater is fussy
hey gang-just got my 95 gas dodge converted to a 12 valve. I got it back & they had just put the vacuum lines back on from under the truck near the tranny. When I drive it, it warms up ok. Then I'll shut it off to get gas or whatever for 10 min & then when I start its cool / cold out of the vents. I drive it later & its fine. Then every other time it'll be cold again. The truck was run for long enough to cycle the coolant thru the engine more than twice; just can't figure it out. Also can you put a warmer thermostat in a 12 valve?
Any suggestions?

The heated box on a 95 is higher than the engine and hard to get the air out. I bought a flush kit and added that to the heater hose. I let the truck warm up and cracked the connection and got air and now its great. well no perfect heat like a gas truck. my .02

IIRC the 12 valves get a 180F thermostat. However this time of year the diesels are hard to get up to operating temps so the heat is scarce!
Sounds like you may have air in the core as sug't.
You can cover the rad with some cardboard to speed up the heat, depending on where you live, of course.
