Headlight "Flicker"
 

Has anyone else ever seen their headlights (along w/ other electrical units) "flicker" shortly after starting your truck? Ive noticed this seems to happen in the morning when its still cold out (plugged in or not). This used to happen on my old '98 also. I do have a stereo system in my truck (as did my old one) but Im wondering if anyone else has seen this happen also. Anyone know of any possible causes? Weird.

Flicker, or dim/bright dim/bright.

If the latter, perfectly normal.

Grid heaters cycling.

:D It's as normal as the factory installed oil leak near your crank case breather bottle.

understand about the grid heaters pulling power/dimming the lights,

but why does my High Beam Indicator flicker off and on VERY FAINTLY when i have the dimmer all the way down.

my old eyes are light sensitive, so i ride with the dimmer all the way down, and it's annoying because it's just bright enough to see out of the corner of your eye, looks like a SES light :rolleyes:

Could be when the dimmer is all the way down the switch is getting to hot. When the switch is turned low, put your hand on the dash just over the switch. It can get so hot it will feel like the plastic will burn/melt. My eyes are the same but I drive bright just cause of that.

Don't know if this will help or not but I had a Ford that the grounds for the headlight and turning signal got loose and it caused the same thing. Just tightened them up and was good to go.

Another member came up with a no cost solution to the hot switch problem.
Pull the switch out and drill a couple of holes in the dash vent duct that runs right beside the switch.
The extra air blowing across the switch will help keep it cooler.

That is a darn good idea shovel.
