gluing glove box hinge

I have a 2001 Dodge 2500. One of the glove box hinges (there are 3) broke off. I tried to glue it back on using epoxy but it literally fell off both times I tried it. The epoxy when dry simply scraps off the plastic hinge material. Is the dash made out of some special material that requires a cetain adhesive? If not is there a "fix" for this problem like an aftermarket piece or ? Thanks for any help.

Sam

Try some 3M weather stripping adhesive.
Most auto parts have it. Follow instructions.

What about hot glue? Also, there are some crazy glue type products intended more for industrial purposes, you might have luck with that.

Its mostly abs plastic, so not much can re-stick it together.

The 3M weatherstrip adhesive tape is a good suggestion. Or try some construction glue like liquid nails or PL.

I glued some cracks and a partially broken glove box hinge with loctite epoxy designed for plastic.

I had to remove my glove box and that hinge broke again in the same place. However with the glove box in it held fine. I actually also glued some of my cracks in the dash together and they have been holding just fine. I had the dash rolled back resting on the seats and holding the dash up in position and then laying it back on the seat as I was redoing some wiring, the bonder held fine. I also had to rebuild around my headlight switch as the tabs broke in one area. Those work so far as well. I really need a new dash as mine is showing its age being an AZ truck. No rust but brittle interior pieces.

I guess I might have twisted the glove box too much pulling it out.

My link up top isnt showing?

Another pic for those if it isnt working.

Have you considered getting plastic welder? Harbor freight has them for under $20. You could also try doing it by heating up a flathead screwdriver with a propane torch and melting it back together. I did a jet ski gas tank filler neck like that years ago and it worked great.

Any luck on the repair methods listed above? I've done the full top dash and bezel replacement. Now the glove box hinges and mounts are breaking. Anyone have luck with repair of this lower area of "the not so wonderful $&@!? dash"?

Yeah, 2nd to 3rd gen went between 1/2 and 3/4 body styles overlapping. They were in a big hurry to get a change out in early 01 that they only released the 1/2 tonners as '02 model year and as 3rd generation body style with the much improved suspension, unfortunately the 2500 still ride like a rock when empty...

I've had non stop plastic problems with my rig.
I agree that the plastic weld by Loctite works pretty good. When the cup holder hinge broke there wasn't enough left to glue up so I machined a piece of Aluminum for it. I put down a small layer of the plastic weld, let it cure then used JB Weld to stick the Al to the plastic weld. It must have worked because it's been over 5 yrs and it's still holding.
The latch on the glasses holder in the overhead console went about a month after the warranty. I ended up making a copper latch for that and stuck it with just JB, it's still holding too.
As for the dash...well my second one is starting to self destruct now super cheapas plastic
