Fuel sending unit module

I took the thin metal strips from wiper blades and slid them down past the tabs and then slid the unit apart. IIRC you need to detach the spring also....it goes back together a lot easier.

Thanks guys . I just need to quit trying to overthink everything . Go slow if you don`t know how to do something and look at it all and don`t force it . I`m happy to say everything is all put back together now and on the road again and the fuel gauge is working . I`m a happy camper again !

Definitely don't force it! Not many adhesives will work near fuel.
I did run across this on Diesel Manor's website, a drop in replacement module that does not cost an arm and a leg:
Airdog 901-01-0520 High Flow Fuel Module Upgrade Kit for Dodge Cummins at DieselManor

It looks like a kit to retro fit your EXISTING fuel module, to me.
Not an actual module itself.

The first picture is misleading.

There's a youtube of a guy modding one, good idea but he's really hard to understand.
I think if you remove the basket filter you'd be ok with an online at the tank outlet, just get a diesel rated one, they have a metal screen that won't collapse or blow out.
Note at over 100K, my tank was really clean inside, I was kinda surprised...

Mine too. I opened mine at 140 K to replace the lines and fuel level sensor, and there was small amount of junk, but nowhere near what I thought would be in there.

My seal was still good on top, but there was a lot of dirt and road grime all around it. One of the screen sections was torn so I removed it. After 20K miles I pulled the inline and cut it open and there were just a few bits in it that looked like tiny gravel, probably from around the filler neck or a ditry nozzle I figured...

filter screen
Anyone know of a source for aftermarket fuel sending unit module that goes in the tank for 01 Ram diesel ? I sure hate to pay what the ******* wants . All because of a torn filter screen at the bottom !! It should be a replaceable part but it`s not . This is not fuel pump module, fuel pump is on motor.
