Fuel Heater Leak

Hey all,

I have a 99' and fuel is leaking from the rubber plug where the fuel heater wires go into the fuel filter/water seperator. When the truck is running it's a fairly steady drip and will probably get worse. My diesel mechanic so far has only been able to get a price for the entire fuel filter/water seperator assembly from a dealer. $1,100 !!! Has any one else had this problem and were you able to find either a used assembly or maybe just the lid by itself where the plug is. Maybe from a good salvage yard?

Thanks in advance.

I have gone to my local Cummins dealer and looked through the parts book , and found just the electrical harness [ that's what leaks in the 12v ] they will try to sell the hole thing but the parts are available separate , form Cummins .

I went through your problem last summer. The 99 fuel filter canister has been superseded by a relocation kit, the parts to fix yours is not available. Now the relocation kit is the fuel filter canister which is used on the 2000, it cost $600 plus. Easy fix is to remove the heater and tap for a ½ inch pipe plug and plug it. I found I didn’t need the heater.

I need my heater

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I think I'll start with a Cummins service place. I believe I need my fuel heater because I live in Western North Carolina and today it's 22 degrees, feels like 5 with the wind. Last weekend it was like 6 at night barely reaching 20 during the day. Is a 2001 assembly compatible?

Where you live you DON"T need the fuel heater. I live in -0 weather took mine off three years ago, Ive never missed it.
